How are problems with the breasts found?
Your doctor will first look at your breasts. You might get a mammogram or an ultrasound to look for tiny lumps or other things that can’t be found during a check.
Treatment and identification are often linked when it comes to breast lumps. For example, your doctor may put a needle into a cyst and draw out fluid, both to look at the fluid and to get rid of the cyst. If the fluid inside the cyst is clear and the cyst goes away, your doctor will probably say it was a harmless cyst and you won’t need any more treatment. A lot of doctors check the fluid in a lab as an extra safety measure. If a lump doesn’t go away and is still there when you get your next period, your doctor will want to check you again.
If the fluid from a suspected cyst is bloody or if little or no fluid can be drawn out, this is reason for worry, and you may need a biopsy to check for cancer.
Only a test can tell if someone has a fibroadenoma. If they are big or painful, the only treatment is usually surgery, which is usually done the same day. However, surgery is not always required.
Adenomas in the nose are sometimes linked to breast cancer, so they are carefully removed.
TREATMENT
Both drinking a lot and eating a lot of fat can make you more likely to get breast cancer. Studies have shown a link between food and tumours, but there is no proof that diet causes tumours. For example, avoiding coffee may help breast cysts get smaller. And keeping your fat intake to less than 20% of your daily calories may help lumps go away or get smaller.
Your doctor may tell you to keep a healthy weight and eat a balanced diet to stop and treat monthly breast swelling. Since salt can make the breasts grow, you should eat less salt when you’re getting your period. Getting rid of caffeine and similar chemicals like methylxanthines, which are found in chocolate and tea, can help ease breast pain.
